A few days a go my mother's laptop crashed and refused to boot. The operating system had been having trouble for a while, and it was Windows Vista so it was not great even when it was working correctly. After running out of options for reinstalling Windows I gave up and reached for Linux. After a few false starts I got Ubuntu installed and configured. It went surprisingly well, especially considering it is a laptop. It did not seem to have any hardware issues, not even with the wireless chip. I am still tinkering with it to weed out any bugs but I think it should work fine for my mom's purposes.
